Body awareness increases your intuitive knowing

Helen

Somatic movement, as I teach it, is more than just a sequence of movements, it leads to a deep understanding and knowing of yourself. I deliberately titled this blog using the words intuitive knowing and not just intuition, because of course you can't increase your intuition, it's always there, wholly in abundance. However, what you are doing is learning to listen to it, becoming aware of it and increasing your knowledge of it, then you can act on the impulses you get.

So how does somatic movement and body awareness help you tap in to your intuitive knowing? Well, the body is the physical part of our being, but we are more than this. We are also composed of thoughts and emotions and our energetic fields are wider than our physical selves. These parts are all connected to the physical body.

What slow moving and somatic awareness can do for you is to help you become aware of everything that is going on around and within you. It encourages you to tap into what feels good and what doesn't feel good. By increasing your knowledge of what feels good to you allows you to make a more informed decision on what to do in your life. You can make a decision that feels good rather than acting on what you may think is correct because of some external factor.

Feeling good is what we are here to do. Everyone is always striving to feel good. It's what motivates us as people. If you want to bring more happiness and peace into your life, society and the world as a whole, then you need to have a sense of peace in yourself. Peace and happiness won't come from acting in ways that feel bad, so increasing your awareness of what feels good what feels not so good helps you make that choice.

Moving mindfully is a physical way you can access this knowledge of how to make good feeling choices. It gives you a visceral feeling of what is good for you and then you can apply this to other areas of your life, extending your happiness outwards from your physical self, to society, to the whole world.
