Taking charge of your own healing

The reason I love somatic movement and Pilates is because it is active. Both are healing modalities because you gain strength, insight and knowledge about the body you spend your life in.

When challenging things happen to us we want to change our circumstances, of course we do. When we feel that challenges are insurmountable then we become depressed and feel defeated to guide our lives in the way we want.

I'm not saying that Pilates or somatic movement will be the answer to everything, but for me, I love that I am a co-participant in my own healing. If I practice, I get results and I start to head in the direction that I want. Which is, to feel strong, calm, more aware of who I am through this body and what it's telling me.

By guiding yourself in the direction you want to head you take your power back as you have the agency to guide your life in the direction you would like. By actively taking steps (or movements as the case may be) towards being a more healthy version of yourself, you feel strong and empowered just for showing up and taking that step in the right direction.

Next time you've finished a movement session you can take a little minute to be thankful that you showed up for yourself and took the action to be a healthy you.
